Founded over 20 years ago, this dedicated group of Lake and Sumter County women has raised over $2 million to support Cornerstone Hospice houses and programs. In December 2010 the group generously donated $100,000 from its fund raisers that year. Today its membership is approximately 400 strong.
Women for Hospice fund raising activities include: monthly luncheons at various locations throughout Lake County, dinners with spouses and friends at Palm Tree Grill in Mount Dora, food drives for patients and families, the five day long “Season of Trees” event in downtown Mount Dora in mid November, and “Trees of Remembrance” during Christmas at Lake Square Mall. Year round the Women for Hospice proudly operate THE HOPE CHEST—an upscale antique and resale shop located in the heart of historic downtown Mount Dora. The Hope Chest accepts donations of household items, jewelry, furniture, just about any thing except clothing. Many members volunteer at the shop.
The impact of Women for Hospice does not stop at fund raising. Several of their members volunteer in Cornerstone Hospice’s offices and hospice houses providing support to patients, families, and staff members. Women for Hospice also support patient families by donating Christmas gifts and Easter baskets. Many members have also left a provision for Cornerstone Hospice in their estate plans.
Women for Hospice Season of Trees I In November, the Women for Hospice set up a week long “Season of Trees” In the Donnelly Park Building.
