Cornerstone Hospice Fills Elderly Wish Lists During the Holidays.

Jan Russell (standing), a clinical liaison and facilities coordinator for Hospice and Dana Ikensaa, clinical liaison, are all smiles as they wrap gifts for Lake and Sumter seniors for the "Be A Santa to a Senior" gift wrapping event.

Cornerstone Hospice hosted its annual, "Be A Santa to a Senior," in December, conducted by Home Instead Senior Care of Leesburg.  The event fills wishes from a "wish" list provided by Senior Services of Lake and Sumter Counties for local seniors.  This year, the group showered 263 seniors with more than 425 gifts, in Lake and Sumter counties.  Participating at the "wrap" party to wrap all of the gifts for distribution were volunteers from Home Instead and Cornerstone Hospice, Comfort Keepers, Visiting Angels, Wellness on Wheels, Angels Care Home Health, Brightstar Lifecare, and the Alzheimer's Family Organization.  There also were more than a dozen residents who volunteered their services.  Many came with their own tape, scissors, wrapping paper and ribbons.  The program was orchestrated locally this year by Home Instead's Genevieve Russell.  Anyone wishing to be considered to help next year can call Home Instead Senior Care at 352-323-6100.
